There was a family renting a home on the main street of our subdivision. They use to piss me off. We called them the Redneck hillbillies. They always had trash or something on their front lawn. They even tied their dog up in the front. It's not like they didn't have a backyard. Many times we'd see the dog wandering loose in the neighborhood.
Well there is a house on my street, that was up on the market. I gather the landlord pulled it off the market and decided to rent to another family. This is a 3 bedroom 2 bath home looking at the size of it. They were occupied by a family of 5. The kids were the ones that pooped in the street and was chased by Lulu. We gather the landlord must have raised the rent causing them to move. Goof always said, they could be worse neighbors. He is so right.
So the old renters left during the New Year's weekend. They didn't even clean the place. Piled all their trash on the curb and left. A lot of trash! The new renters started moving in the next day. The first indication this was not going to be a pleasant family was that we saw 3 kids, who all look under the age of 14 doing donuts on their front and back yards in their golf cart. If they weren't on the grass, they were doing donuts in the street. Driving up Babymama's driveway to do donuts on the side yard. Not a good first impression. Legally here children 12 and up may drive the carts with a legal age guardian on the cart with them.
They moved in over the course of 3 days, taking many trips using a 3 yard trailer. They must have lived fairly close in town prior because it was taking them about 20 min each trip. So now they have moved in, and the kids are still doing donuts on the lawns, while whatever adults are doing their own thing, coming and going from the house. They have a dog that has wandered the street unsupervised. Joy, I now worry about hitting a black dog at night when I run to the store.
The garbage collections came on Monday and today. There is still a huge pile of trash on the curb and it's blowing around. The drunk up the block has gone picking over the trash pile today, and I'm disgusted by this all. I had a new mindset about neighbors. It wasn't a resolution really, but trying to form a new attitude about the neighbors. They leave us alone, we leave them alone. Hard to do this if we've got another dog that will piss on my front lawn. I'm trying to keep the stuff alive in this drought, Damn it! I'm not sure how many people live in the house as we've seen a lot of people come over to the house.
This is what you get when you land in the state and have less than 2 months to find a house in the proper school district. You find a house you like, but don't get to research enough about the neighbors. I must be in one of Dante's circles of hell, is it the third for glutton or the fourth for material goods? It is not the first as I have taken a stand for God, and I do wave a banner for him. I just don't wave one for organized religion. Is there a way out of this? With the housing market the way it is now, it will take another 3 or 4 years for it to recover, and with the subprime loan debacle, it will never be so predatory thank God.
So anyways, I felt there was no choice but to call code enforcement. I hope they find out who the landlord is, and makes her pay for the prompt removal of the trash. If she makes the prior renters pay the costs, it's not my issue. It was their junk to begin with. I can only hope these people change their habits quickly or leave just as quickly.
