We renamed our WIFI. I have a moral belief it is wrong to jump on someone's wifi connection without permission. When I visit my mom and have my laptop with me, I use an ethernet cable to hook up to her modem. For whatever reason, her WIFI won't let me link up. It might be, that she doesn't know her passkey code for the secure modem. So I just bypass it and use a 100ft cable. Hey Stinky can use the laptop just fine in the living room, and the cable is bright yellow so you see it, and Mom does throw rugs over the cable to help prevent tripping.
Last Christmas the family convened at Mom's house. There were 4 laptops present besides mine. I don't know if all of them were linked up to a WIFI connection or not. But I know for certain they weren't hooked up on my mom's. Three of my cousins had jumped on a neighbor's unsecure connection. I just didn't feel comfortable doing that, so I did the awkward clumsy thing of a cable. It's rude, and I consider it theft.
Sunday, Goof and I were hanging out in the family room with our laptops. Stinky was upstairs on the tower playing his games. Goof got up, stretched and looked out the front door. What he saw made him mad. He saw Fred walking up and down the street with his Nintendo DS pointed at houses. He found a connection at our house. Goof saw him sit down on the power box and start playing on his DS. Goof immediately runs to his laptop and looks at the router. Sure enough what hardware has linked up on our connection? The Nintendo DS was showing up. Goof warns me, of the connection shut down, and that he's putting the passkey code back in place. He then runs back to the window, sees Fred shut his DS and get up off the power box. As he looks at our house, Goof waves at him.
Last year our WIFI was unsecured, but as soon as Goof saw Fred had gotten a PSP, he secured the connection. He had removed the security code when I told him my laptop was having trouble connecting, and he also needed to hook up the tower. So we forgot about the secure code for two weeks. When Goof saw Fred outside trying to jump on a connection he got mad. In fact he changed the name of our connection. We've never named it before it's always just been Linksys secure or unsecure connection. He thought hmm I should change the name to 'Fred sucks ass' but that was really immature for an adult, so it became, 'Hillbillies suck ass' Not that it's any better, but it's a general rude remark to those in our cul de sac that have hardware able to seek out a WIFI link. The passkey code is back in place, and it's a pretty obvious statement what we think of people that jump on WIFI without permission.
