We survived the flight back

I'm back from the city by the Bay. Well from the East Bay anyways. For some reason I'm warmer here than back at Mom's house. The wind was so cold! Also it rained in Atlanta while we were gone, so the bitter cold front was missing. Mom told me that Dad hurt his thumb somehow and wasn't able to turn on the wall heater. Not that she uses it much. We used space heaters to warm up our toes. Mom worries about her orchids. Gee, they are her new children. There is a cold front coming in next week, so back to the cold toes. I really want electric socks.

No luggage was lost, and it wasn't a bad flight back. We watched Blades of Glory on the laptop, so we had some fun. It was a much calmer flight back. I did leave CA with more luggage than I meant to. Now I have a complete set of Mom's luggage. I'm sure that will come in handy next time.

Still thinking about all that happened with the family. One thing that was pretty funny and I'll have to post pictures later, is the public housing. A comment that one of my younger cousins made about store bought gingerbread house kits. So since the holidays are over, the joke was still funny, and I teased her about it. I'm going to make a house and she will have to make hers. I plan to share photos of this with the family and all 3 of you out there. If I manage to make more than one, will it become a ghetto? The Acorn projects of Oakland? Make gingerbread gun runners? If I knew the name of some infamous Atlanta project I would name it that. Perhaps if I can make multi-story buildings I can call it New Jack City. Wesley Snipes toting a machine gun in a Jeep outside the complex. How hard would it be to make a crack pipe with royal icing? Heck would you even be able to tell what it is, depending on the size?

Ah well, we are unpacked, but still sorting things out. I've got to sit on Stinky to organize his closet. It looks like the closet puked clothes all over the place. I think I need to grab some more hangers for him. Also a new belt or two for his pants. Dang kid has an itty bitty waist. What any woman would kill for. Wasted on men.

Very busy friday.

Wow, I had a full day yesterday. Stinky and I got up at a decent hour, and while he enjoyed his morning playing video games, I was running around busy. Stinky had a friend coming over. So the usual cleaning, was done. I even mowed the front lawn! Gave myself an asthma attack, but oh well. Dogs, got to run around a bit in the yard before the visitors came.

The boys were going to swim and then play 360 afterwards, but that changed quickly enough. The clouds came and the rain began. Oh well the boys were happy. The mom and I enjoyed ourselves chatting. We decided to make ramen noodles for the boys and had one bowl ready in the dining room, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw a flash, and a bright orange ball! Immediately a crack sounded in the air. Lightning stuck. It struck a tree in our backyard. The rains were so heavy we couldn't see how much damage was caused, but it was enough to scare us. Electrical items were turned off, and the boys were told to stay with us downstairs. So lunch was eaten and some games were played. The storm lightened up and the boys went back upstairs to play.

Later when Goof came home he explored the damage. The tree is 200 ft tall, the limb that fell to the ground was over 18 ft long. When goof walked behind the branches I realized how big the limb was. I couldn't see a 6ft man behind it. He thinks the tree will survive. I hope so. It also looks like another tree was hit too in the storm. It's on the other end of the property and if it falls it's not going to damage any homes.

He and Stinky cleaned up most of the limb this morning. I on the other hand did nothing. I was finishing reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I went to BAM and got my copy and started reading immediately. Again, we were with Whinis and Droopy. Yet again, I am disappointed by Whinis. Stinky has yet to rise above him. It's pretty obvious to all parties, that Stinky cannot be around Whinis at all. Whinis is too argumentative, and Stinky is too strong willed to let an 8 year old get the better of him. It just means loud voices and lots of pushing.

Back to Harry Potter. That was fantastic. I cried, and laughed and cried again. It was just the best. I spent the night reading and converting the audio cds to mp3 files. I am so glad I did that. Stinky says he wants to listen to the book rather than reading. I would rather he read the book, but then I'm not against him listening to it really. I plan to listen to it while I clean. In fact the basement is still calling me. I find I can't talk about the book. It's not fair to anyone that wanders here and isn't a fast reader. Egg, my very knowing little brother, sent me a text message this afternoon. The message was short, "Finish It yet?" How he knows me. So of course I had to let him know I was done. He had read only a few pages, as he had commitments upstate. He's only on page 200. He'll catch up over the next few days. I didn't tell him anything, just that it was great, and the ending was rather maudlin, as per a woman writing.

I'm gonna play on the random house site and find some audio clips from the audio and shove it here.

Home again, and cleaning again

Wow it was a busy few days jamming in everything last minute before we left. Thursday I had gone into my old work and socialized with all the former coworkers there. I miss that crew. We had a lot of fun, and worked hard. From what I understand, it's not so fun anymore. I never had trouble with my old manager. I know others had issues with her. Perhaps, it's because I came after she was a manager. It's always easier for new people who don't work along side in the same job, then have to report to them.

The 3 of us went back to Chinatown again on Friday. We hit the farmer's market and got some really yummy Ranier cherries, and strawberries. On the way back, we saw a tea shop, so I had to stop in. Wow, what a wild fun time we had. The sales woman did the whole traditional tea ceremony with us. She had the tiny teapots and cups, preparing the teapots, the cups, and the tea. It was really neat to watch her prepare it all. It helps also that she had a really neat tea serving table, with marble inserts, and drains for the water, beautiful rosewood counters and fantastic carvings. Stinky was so impressed he wanted to have tea like this at home. Of course not! Mom did give me a tea set similar to what the shop sold. Stinky was really enamored with a specific tea that was for sale there. A Tikkumyi tea. (Iron Lady tea) It was $680/lb! No, we didn't have her sample it for us. I just couldn't do that to the woman. We did pick up a nice Litchi tea. It's not as flavorful as the one Mom brought back from China. But that's alright, it was only $20/lb. That's more reasonable than another store I saw selling it for $98/lb.

We went out to dinner with Dad's partner and his wife. That was a nice dinner, it was a bit early, since Stinky and I were going bowling with my old coworkers. We had a seafood dinner of course. I think Stinky was finally getting sick of seafood. So after dinner we headed back to the house to drop off the parents and go out.

Stinky had a lot of fun bowling. He got 70 on the 2nd game. Not bad for a first time bowler. Granted he needs more practice, and lessons. One of guys there brought his two boys, ages 6.5 and 8.5. They were attached to him. I guess he really made an impression on those boys.

Oh, Dad got a new car. Well, new for him. A 1997 Lexus. After so many cars and years, he finally got what mom wanted. Hell, all she really wanted was a Camry. Still does.

Saturday, was rather tiring also. We got up fine and just had a lot of packing to do. We ended up having seafood again. Stinky is burnt out on flounder finally. He did eat practically 2 large crabs. It was a bit crowded on the flight home. We had a layover in Las Vegas for an hour, but it was alright. It was the second leg that sucked. We had unaccompanied minors behind us and they were noisy. Took them 2 hours before they finally went to sleep. Goof was grouching when he picked us us. Not the best father's day to have to wake up at 6am to get us.

So, he decided to get a Boston Butt, and smoke it. He started the grill at 7:30am. It took about 4 hours, and we had it at noon. There are still left overs in the fridge. We were just exhausted from the flight. Cleaning up the dog room last night was not fun. But it was done, and a whole bottle of Pine Sol was used.

Today was a busy day for me. I was pissed off at the disarray of my kitchen so that had to be cleaned. The bathrooms were messy, and the laundry was not folded, washed, but not folded, so they are wrinkled. I'll deal with the laundry over the next few days. But, today I can say I addressed the lighting issue in the family room, the floors on the first level, and the bathrooms. Oh and Stinky cleaned his room. He has a chores list he must do daily now.
