I was just reading a story in the AJC paper. A home cook was interviewed about her love of cooking and the types of food she puts out for her many gatherings. Now I'm jealous enough that this busy woman has the social network to have so many gatherings. What also kills me is that she has 3 ovens, 2 dishwashers, and a professional stove. So the given is that the couple have large extended families on both sides, and two teenage boys. We know that teenage boys are constant eating machines. But oh the jealousy.
Now 'IF' we stay in this house for the next 10 years, is it worth it to do the huge kitchen remodel I dream of? My dream is to knock out the dividing wall between kitchen and dining room , put in a center island double oven, 6 burner stove, new cupboards, pantry, granite counters, and flooring. The family room would be the dining room, and the living room would be just fine with new carpet. Living room is bigger than the family room.
Now my plan would also be to make the office into a bathroom, connect Stinky's bathroom and ours into one larger master bathroom. I'm not saying the bathrooms would be huge. I've got tiny ones as it is now, so it would be more on par with what is the norm now. We would then have a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath house. I think that it wouldn't upset the flow of things in our little cul de sac.
The issue would be the kitchen remodel. Two adults, and a teenager eating constantly. We haven't built the social network yet. Hey go back and look at my previous posts about neighbors and my efforts at socializing to see what I mean. Is it too much for just us? Obviously I'm not planning on entertaining my extended family. I'm pretty lucky if my mom can leave her orchids to come out and visit me, so to expect cheapo eldest uncle, and meanie Ai Yee here is to believe in miracles. My brother and his wife? Maybe, but they would use our place as a hotel. Head back into Atlanta and have fun in town. Hey that's what hip childless early 30 somethings do out here. Not that I blame them. They haven't gotten on the baby train yet. Living the suburban, bedroom community life isn't in the cards for them yet.
So, after reading all my ramblings, what do you think? Dreaming of too much kitchen? I'm still jealous of that woman in the paper no matter what.
